Developing Activity-Based Learning Processes with Local Information: Phra Pathom Chedi

Abstract

     This research aimed to: 1) Study relevant information about Phra Pathom Chedi to design learning activities based on local knowledge; and 2) Develop a process for activity-based learning using local information about Phra Pathom Chedi. The target group for this study included, one staff member of Wat Phra Pathom Chedi Ratchaworamahawihan, three monks from the same temple, and the head of the Phra Pathom Chedi National Museum. The data collection instruments consisted of: 1) Document analysis form; and 2) Semi-structured interviews.
The results indicated the following: 1) Local information about Phra Pathom Chedi emphasized its historical background and significance, archaeological artifacts or significant sites within the temple, and key artifacts exhibited in the Phra Pathom Chedi National Museum; 2) The process of activity-based learning utilizing local information on Phra Pathom Chedi was outlined in five steps: 1) Introduction; 2) Study and Discussion; 3) Activity; 4) Knowledge Sharing and Conclusion; and 5) Evaluation.
