Abstract

The rapid advancement of financial technology (FinTech) has significantly reshaped consumption behaviors across various sectors, particularly within university campuses. In China, the integration of FinTech tools such as mobile payments and digital financial services has transformed traditional payment methods and financial management among students. This study aimed to examine the impact of FinTech popularization and application on campus consumption patterns in Chinese higher education institutions. Specifically, the objectives were to investigate the current status of FinTech adoption, analyze the influence of FinTech application adoption, assess the effect of mobile payment usage frequency, and evaluate how digital financial service acceptance and FinTech facility availability jointly shape students’ consumption behaviors.
A quantitative research approach was employed, targeting 400 undergraduate students from six public universities in Chongqing. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between FinTech application adoption and campus consumption patterns, indicating that greater adoption promoted digital and diversified consumption. Mobile payment usage frequency strongly enhanced consumption patterns due to its convenience and security. Acceptance of digital financial services improved students’ financial management capabilities and consumption confidence, while the availability of FinTech-related facilities increased payment efficiency and willingness to use such tools.
FinTech popularization plays a crucial role in transforming campus consumption patterns toward more digital, convenient, and rational financial behaviors. The study recommends that universities enhance FinTech infrastructure and incorporate FinTech education into curricula, while FinTech companies should design student-oriented products and services to optimize campus financial experiences.
