Abstract
This study explored the influencing factors of parenting styles in families with children in Shanghai and their theoretical foundations based on the empowerment theory. The aim is to construct a structural model of the influencing factors of parenting styles in Shanghai’s families with children, verify the research hypotheses and the model, and subsequently provide a scientific basis and corresponding strategies for improving the parenting styles of parents in Shanghai.
Initially, this study conducted a systematic review of the relevant research findings on the empowerment theory and parenting styles. It provided a thorough analysis of the factors influencing parenting styles in families with children in Shanghai, explored the connections between each factor and the corresponding parenting styles, and offered targeted suggestions for improvement. These suggestions offer valuable references for improving parenting styles in Shanghai’s families with children.
This study explored the impact of four key factors, namely marital satisfaction, parental education level, time spent accompanying children, and household noise level, on parenting styles in Shanghai’s families with children. A quantitative research method was employed in this study. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed, of which 322 were valid, yielding a response rate of 80.5%. Through empirical research, it was found that marital satisfaction, parental education level, time spent accompanying children, and household noise level all have a significant influence on the parenting styles in Shanghai’s families with children.
Based on the findings, the following suggestions are proposed for families: (1) Nurture the marriage wholeheartedly to create a warm and well-ordered family environment. (2) Engage in continuous learning to enrich the reservoir of parenting knowledge. (3) Make reasonable plans and arrangements to provide children with high-quality companionship. (4) Foster a quiet and harmonious atmosphere.
