Abstract
This study is qualitative research aiming to explore service marketing mix factors affecting consumers’ decision to purchase voluntary automobile insurance in Bangkok. Semi-structured interview forms were used for in-depth interview with a sample of 33 key informants in Bangkok, who are car owners and have made decisions to purchase voluntary automobile insurance. The study employed purposive sampling, and data were analyzed using content analysis, with reliability verified through triangulation.
The research findings indicate that the informants assigned the highest level of significance to product and price factors in the decision-making process for purchasing voluntary automobile insurance, specifically focusing on sum insured that aligns with the actual value of the vehicle, and value for money that is balanced with the insurance premiums. The decision-making behavior of the informants exhibited an integrated pattern, utilizing online channels for information comparison while ultimately purchasing through insurance agents to ensure accuracy and security. Secondly, the informants assigned the high level of significance to service process and personnel factors, whereby the informants emphasized that accident surveyors must arrive at the scene promptly and possess knowledge of insurance. The succeeding factors included marketing promotion and place factors, which also influenced the purchasing decision; notably, premium discounts exerted a greater influence on the decision-making process than complimentary gifts. The informants predominantly decided to purchase through insurance agents. Finally, the physical evidence factor was rated as the least significant by the informants.
