Abstract

This report summarizes a three-month internship with Heiwa Maritime, part of the Japanese shipping industry. The objectives of the study are, (1) Assessing the importance of hospitality in the cruise ship industry (2) Understand the importance of business skills in cruise industry (3) the development of customer retention and satisfaction strategies to increase profits.

I worked as a galley officer on board the ‘Fujin’, a Heiwa Maritime contract ship. During my internship, my main responsibilities included stocking foodstuffs, assisting with cooking and suggesting menu items. The internship program was a learning and growing experience for me.

I was able to develop and apply skills such as time management, communication, confidence, and constructive criticism and consistent effort. Constructive criticism and consistent effort were very important experiences for my future career.
