Abstract
Employee performance plays a crucial role in the growth and competitiveness of organizations in Myanmar, particularly as the country continues to undergo rapid economic and organizational transformation. However, identifying which leadership styles most effectively enhance employee performance remains a key challenge for many Myanmar-based companies. This study analyzes the impact of six leadership styles: laissez-faire, autocratic, transformational, transactional, democratic, and servant leadership, on employee performance within Myanmar organizations. The primary objective was to examine how these leadership approaches shape employee outcomes and to provide practical managerial insights for improving workforce effectiveness in the Myanmar context. A quantitative research method was employed, utilizing a structured online questionnaire distributed to employees working across various sectors in Myanmar, with 389 valid responses collected. Data analysis included descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, with Pearson correlation analysis used to examine the relationships among the variables. The findings indicate that transformational leadership and servant leadership shows the strongest positive correlations with I employee performance, highlighting their importance in motivating, inspiring, and supporting employees. Democratic and transactional leadership also showed meaningful positive effects, while laissez-faire and autocratic leadership demonstrated comparatively moderate yet significant influences. The study concludes that Myanmar organizations can enhance employee performance by emphasizing people-centered leadership approaches, particularly transformational and servant leadership, while also integrating democratic and other leadership practices where appropriate. Managers are encouraged to prioritize communication, empowerment, ethical conduct, and supportive supervision to foster a more productive and motivated workforce.
