Abstract
Leadership education plays a critical role in fostering college students’ comprehensive abilities, including teamwork, communication, and decision-making. However, integrating leadership education into professional programs remains a challenge, especially at local universities like Dianchi College. This study aimed to comprehensively explore the current status of broadcasting and hosting art courses at YUNNAN Dianchi College and to investigate the internal and external factors influencing the integration of leadership education into the broadcasting and hosting art curriculum, with the ultimate goal of offering insights and strategies for higher education reform to enhance leadership development.
A qualitative research method was adopted, combining documentary research and case interview research methods. Data were gathered from 15 course syllabi and teaching plans, 10 student feedback records, and 6 extracurricular activity reports. Additionally, interviews were conducted with 11 faculty members, and approximately 30 students were observed during teamwork assignments. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in the data, guided by the Student Leadership Challenge (SLC), Social Change Model (SCM), and Emotional Intelligence Leadership (EIL) frameworks.
This study concludes that leadership education at Dianchi College is limited by a lack of structured curriculum integration, interactive teaching strategies, and practical leadership opportunities. Internally, insufficient leadership-focused course design and inadequate teacher training hinder implementation. Externally, societal priorities on technical skills and unclear policy guidance restrict leadership education development. To address these challenges, this study recommends integrating leadership elements into existing curricula, providing targeted teacher training, and enhancing practical leadership experiences for students. Clearer policies and institutional support are essential to fostering leadership education in local universities.
