Abstract

The rapid expansion of online hotel booking platforms has transformed how travelers make accommodation decisions. Among Asian travelers, user-generated content, particularly star ratings and customer reviews, has become a decisive factor in shaping booking intentions. This study examined the extent to which online review attributes, such as credibility, usefulness, and rating scores, influence hotel selection behavior in Asia’s fast-growing digital tourism market.
A quantitative survey of 200 respondents across Asian countries was conducted using structured questionnaires distributed via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis, with reliability confirmed by Cronbach’s Alpha and validity established through expert review and pilot testing.
The findings reveal that Trust, Perceived Value, Perceived Benefit, Perceived Price, Promotion, and Perceived Environmental Responsibility have significant positive influences on online hotel booking decisions among Asian travelers. In contrast, Perceived Risk has a significant negative influence on booking decisions, indicating that higher levels of perceived risk reduce travelers’ willingness to book hotels online. Among all variables, Trust emerged as the strongest predictor of online booking decisions, highlighting the importance of reliable information and consumer confidence in digital hospitality platforms. Overall, the results support all seven proposed hypotheses and demonstrate that travelers are more likely to make online hotel bookings when they perceive greater value, benefits, trust, promotional incentives, fair pricing, and environmental responsibility while experiencing lower levels of perceived risk.
From a managerial perspective, hotel operators should focus on strengthening consumer trust by maintaining high service quality, encouraging authentic customer reviews, responding promptly to customer feedback, and implementing effective promotional strategies. Online booking platforms should enhance the transparency and reliability of their review systems while providing accurate pricing information and highlighting hotels’ environmental initiatives to improve customer confidence and booking decisions. Academically, this study contributes to the literature on electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), digital trust, and consumer behavior by providing empirical evidence of the factors influencing online hotel booking decisions among Asian travelers.

Keywords: online hotel booking decision, online reviews, trust, perceived value, perceived risk, electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), Aian travelers.
