Abstract

As a representative enterprise in China’s fresh food retail industry, Yonghui Superstores has experienced a continuous decline in operating performance and gradually emerging financial risks in recent years, driven by intensifying market competition and business model adjustments. This study took Yonghui Superstores as the research subject, aiming to identify the deficiencies in its financial risk management and to propose targeted optimization recommendations. This study adopted a qualitative single-case study design and employed case study, financial data analysis, and comparative analysis to systematically investigate the enterprise’s risk management status from a whole-process financial risk control perspective, drawing on publicly disclosed financial data from 2021 to 2025. The findings reveal that Yonghui Superstores exhibits deficiencies across all five stages of the risk management cycle—risk identification, risk assessment, risk warning, risk control, and post-event review. More critically, the five stages lack effective information transmission channels. Although each stage possesses formal institutional arrangements, they operate in isolation rather than as an integrated system. The disconnection between stages prevents risk signals from being effectively transmitted throughout the system, ultimately resulting in a systemic failure of the financial risk control framework. This discovery exposes a fundamental limitation of current financial risk control research, which tends to manage each stage as an independent domain rather than as an integrated system, demonstrating that “local optimization” cannot substitute for “systemic effectiveness.” In response to these issues, this study proposes optimization recommendations including the establishment of dynamic risk identification mechanisms, improvement of risk assessment and early warning systems, strengthening of full-process risk control, and enhancement of post-event review mechanisms. These recommendations aim to elevate the enterprise’s financial risk control capability and provide both theoretical and practical references for financial risk governance in the retail industry.
