Abstract

This int, ernship is conducted at Lutheran World Relief, Nepal an INGO which has been independently working for the welfare of Nepalese people since 2009. The projects conducted by LWR are mostly focused on Earthquake and Flood Resilience programs. Although many social projects such as Water window, Nepal Earthquake resilience project are being undertaken by LWR, the internship was limited to Finance and Administrative department. The duties assigned to the intern were routine, day to day operational activity. However, extra efforts were made through doing the jobs assigned to put the theoretical knowledge gained into application. Mostly, the intern was focused on learning the procedures of value addition by doing the tasks assigned. The value adding process might seem routine and monotonous but is considered highly significant as without the activities by Finance and Admin department, completion of projects, utilization of funds for projects, benefits of staffs were not possible. For instance, petty cash expenses of the office and projects are very regular. Without updating the records of the transaction, replenishment of the fund is not possible. Hence, each transaction’s recording added value by efficiently disbursing the petty cash. Conducting concrete research in the organization was great obstacle. Few reasons for this was field staffs mostly visiting outdoor fields and external meetings, lack of technical expertise by the intern to receive the information provided by project specific staffs and also due to short period of work. However, this report is focused on the outcomes gained by the intern by working in the Finance and Admin department and how the department does add value to the office and the project itself.
